Elisabeth R. Anker is a Professor of American Studies and Political Science at George Washington University and Director of the Film Studies Program. Her work explores the intersections of political theory and cultural criticism, particularly around freedom, violence, and power in U.S. politics and culture. She is the author of Ugly Freedoms (2022) and Orgies of Feeling: Melodrama and the Politics of Freedom (2014), both published by Duke University Press. Anker frequently contributes to major publications like The New York Times and Boston Review and appears on networks such as Al Jazeera and CNN to discuss current events. Her current projects include books on white supremacy, misogyny, and democracy.
